NUTMEG
Botanical Name :- Myristica fragrans Top
Indian name :- Jaiphal
Nutmeg is a dried kernel of the seed of an evergreen tree. It
has a strong aroma with a slightly bitter taste. Nutmeg tree
grows in Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and West Indies. Nutmeg
contains an essential oil and saponin. The dry, ripe trees of
the fruit contain a volatile oil and fixed oil. The dry leaves
of the tree yield an essential oil consisting of myristicin.

Properties
:-Nutmeg was used in the preparation of various medicines in
early times. Today it is widely used for the preparation of
pharmaceutical. The oil is extracted from the the herb is used
in perfumery, hair lotions and as an antispasmodic carminative.
The herb is useful in treating dehydration caused by vomiting
and diarrhoea, particularly in cholera. |
